Read the Gartner press release
As Information Week put it "If Gartner thinks virtual worlds are hot, then by gosh they are hot". Whilst you might think Gartners numbers are a bit optimistic (our own roadmap puts the 2011 figure at around 10% and the 80% figure at 2040! - mind you we count every Internet user as active, and also the Internet is likely to see explosive gr
growth in places link China, India and Africa where bandwidth issues may remain for some time), their analysis and direction of travel is good - it's just the speed we don't know.
Gartner also quote 5 "laws" for virtual world corporate activity:
First Law: Virtual worlds are not games, but neither are they a parallel universe (yet).
Second Law: Behind every avatar is a real person.
Third Law: Be relevant and add value.
Fourth Law: Understand and contain the downside.
Fifth Law: This is a long haul.
Of course if you need help in understanding what this is all about just give us a call.
